Production of Vegetables Doubled Haploid Lines Using Reverse Breeding
Launching a platform for production of doubled haploid lines, their evaluation and introduction of new F1 hybrid cultivars in vegetables (cucumber and pepper) using haploidy and reverse breeding
Now, annually more than 120 million dollars of vegetables seeds are imported into the country, and this statistic is only related to legal imports. For the production of hybrid seeds, the most important issue is to have the technology for the production of inbred lines. The haploid system and reverse breeding is the fastest method to achieve 100% pure parental lines. In this research institute (ABRII), we have worked specifically on rapeseed and vegetables (bell peppers and cucumbers) and to produce haploids in these plants, we used microspore embryogenesis (androgenesis) and parthenogenesis methods. With this method of haploidy and reverse breeding in the bell pepper plant, we have so far registered 2 new F1 hybrid cultivars of red sweet pepper called "Join 1" and "Join 2" in cooperation with the “Jovein Company” for the first time in the country. In the coming year, new hybrids of cucumbers will also be filed for registration through the haploid system. The research carried out has been transferred to private sectors and with their cooperation, we have achieved suitable hybrids.
