The Deputy of Technology and Innovation at the Agricultural Biotechnology Research Institute aims to create a suitable environment for the development, offering, and commercialization of biotechnologies based on societal needs. It also guides and directs researchers towards entrepreneurship and empowers the workforce, assisting in the creation of new businesses based on biotechnology and maximizing the commercial value of research projects. The activities and programs of the Office of Technology and Innovation include feasibility studies of projects through the preparation of their PFS, technology/technical knowledge transfer, inventory of commercializable achievements, protection of achievements through patent registration processes domestically and internationally, participation in domestic exhibitions to showcase the capabilities and strengths of the institute, supervision of contracts and technological projects, creating a network of industry connections, establishing startup and spin-off companies, and evaluating the effectiveness of transferred technologies in society and the development of innovation centers within the institute. Over the past 20 years, the Agricultural Biotechnology Research Institute has created more than 70 commercializable technologies. Of these, about 35 technologies have been transferred to the private sector and have had a significant impact on agriculture. Among these, the technologies that have reached the market have had an annual impact of over 160 million dollars in the country. Some achievements of the Agricultural Biotechnology Research Institute of Iran are as follows:

  • Management of Witches' Broom Disease of Lime (WBDL) for the first time in the world
  • Implementation of the self-sufficiency program for the production of virus-free potato seed tubers
  • Revival of Arian strain chicken and entry into the country's chicken meat production chain after 20 years
  • Production of Plantlets of Commercial Date Palm Varieties Using Somatic Embryogenesis Method (cv. Medjool)
  • Production of native lactic acid bacteria formulation
  • Production of green and summer hybrid seeds using reverse breeding method
  • DNA fingerprinting of the most important commercial garden cultivars of Iran
  • Production of valuable compounds from microalgae
  • Production of herbal probiotic based on native strains of Trichoderma fungus
  • Transgenic products tracking laboratory
  • Mass production of Maling Merton apples
