food biotechnology research institute
The Food Biotechnology Research Institute is located in the northwest region of the country and is actively engaged in research activities with specialized and dedicated human resources in three areas: food bioprocessing, tissue and cell culture, and molecular microbiology. The main goals and missions of the Food Biotechnology Research Institute include improving the country's food security through the production of primary materials and nutritional supplements, which are mostly imported high value products, required by the food and related industries using biotechnological methods. Some of the key activities currently being undertaken by the research institute include creating collections of indigenous lactic acid bacteria and microalgae, formulating and producing starters for dairy products based on indigenous lactic acid bacteria, developing human probiotic strains, and developing technical knowledge for the production of valuable products from microalgae.
